Shrooms...
Okay, so what's a gurl to do? My latest obsession is with, what I consider the most captivating, delicious, cleverly concealed delicacy know to humankind - the Mushroom. (yes, in my eyes, it deserves a capital letter!!) I have known and loved them since the dawn of time and am always overjoyed to see them coyly displayed on a veggie platter, just waiting for me to indulge. But.....the humble, yet delicious common button mushroom pales in comparison (pun completely intended) with the wide variety of wild mushrooms that bless this Island. I've recently become intimately acquainted with the Shaggy Mane:
So, imagine my delight when walking the doggies this morning, I found a variety of fun-guys across the road in the school yard. Ok,Ok I realize that very few people will share my unbridled enthusiasm for mushrooms - I'm sure that I'll get over it. I just happened to have a pocket full of bags - go figgure - so I decided to unearth a few and see if I can identify them or more realistically, have someone else do it for me. (I have to give credit to GB at this point as she definitively identified my first Shaggy Manes and ate them without a second thought. I can still be a big, baby fungiphobe.....)
Here are what I dragged home with me:

Any guesses? C'mon, someone has to have knowledge greater than I......
BTW, the world is divided into two factions, those who adore mushrooms and those who won't eat them, pick them out of their food and share them with the rest of us. God bless you.

They are absolutely so yummy when sauteed with butter, olive oil and garlic and then eaten on a neutral tasting cracker - LOVE IT! I'm fortunate that I have a reliable spot where I can dig up these scrumptious, little darlings. I've only divulged this spot to a chosen few. As someone recently said: "Shrooms are like fish, you don't give out your spot" - Sooooo true!

and the:
(yes, their personalities are properly reflected in these photos - evil Steve and benevolent Boukie)
*Thanks again for saving our butts.
On Saturday, I checked my cell and there was a message from my neighbour asking why I hadn't let her know that a guy was staying in our house. She,rightfully so, had been scared spitless. Kin and I couldn't figure out what guy was in our house. (Kin was gearing up to kick his butt if he touched his Lego or Xbox). She also mentioned that the front door lock was busted.(Which turned out to be just the normal way that our door works....) Before the message finished, it cut out b/c my cell minutes were up. Well, the panic was on!!! We jumped in the car, headed for Duncan, filled up on gas and bought a new phone card......that wouldn't work....:(
OK, let's just drive back to Nanaimo, no, let's head for K & Js and use their phone to top up the cell. OK, here we go. Luckily for us, I turned up the right street (I usually miss it) and Kim was in the driveway cleaning out her car. Yay! (Kim you should be wearing a superhero cape).
She let me use her phone to top up mine and I phoned my neighbour and got the scoop. OOOOO right, another friend of mine had asked if her son and cat (the notorious BOB) could hang at our house for a couple of hours on Friday a.m. while her landlord came by. Sure, I said and promptly, forgot. LOL! (middle age brain is much worse than pregnancy brain). So, true to Ricky and Lucy form, my neighbour came in to feed the cats, the H came out to find out who was in the house and shrieks of surprise were emitted by all, except for Steve, who true to form, was yelling at the top of his lungs for someone, anyone to feed him.
Anyhoo, it all worked out in the end, which is usually what happens.
So, thanks to all who participated in our drama.

Sniffle, Sniffle, Snuff, Snuff.....:(
Hhhhmmmm.... the amazing, still baffling world of blogging never ceases to amaze me! For the past week, and a little more, we've been trying to set up this "amazing tool" called a blog. For days and days, it was completely beyond me how easy it was to blog. Now, all of a sudden, the gods of blog (good name for a band there) decided that it's dreadfully easy to do. Um, ok.....? Thank you, G of B.
Guess who, it's Pat again. I was avoiding having to sit down with Kindred and patiently, because that's my biggest character strength, show him how easy it is to blog. Butthey, now, for the first time in my short life as a mother, I can promise him something that's actually true. But the Gods of good health have not been looking lightly on my red-headed cherub. He came down with a dreadful cold yesterday which was made increasingly irritating b/c it was the first homeschooler skate of the season and he really wanted to be there. He finds it frustrating that I'm not the kind of parent to expose him to the masses when he's suffering the ill effects of accumulation of mucus in a variety of body parts. Trop le mauvais. As the day progressed, he gradually, under the influence of organic hot lemon, oil of oregano, and GASP, an Advil, gave into the fact that yes, he has a COLD!
We generally allow ourselves a day to completely collapse on the softest surface available, cat or no cat, and wallow in our illness. After that, it's all a matter of positive thinking. Works for us.
So, Kindred may actually start contributing to my blog in the near future. ;) Other than that, I'm somewhat pleased and smug to see that I figgured this out on my own. Chalk one up to my intellect and self-confidence. (Gods here: Little does she know that it's just a matter of entering mundane information that very few people actually care about or read all the way through, but we'll string the poor mortal along for awhile before we mess with the blog in some complicated and unfigureoutable way).
TaTa for now. *P
